Professor Gary D Kinchin
Gary received his undergraduate degree with First Class Honours from the College of St Mark and St John in 1988. Gary taught PE and Science at the secondary level until 1993 before enrolling for a Masters degree at The Ohio State University. In 1997, while working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, Gary secured his PhD in Physical Education Teacher Education at The Ohio State University. Gary then worked as an Assistant Professor in Teacher Education at Illinois State University and then as a Senior Lecturer in Sport Pedagogy at De Montfort University. In 2001 Gary joined the Education School at the University of Southampton where he would remain on staff before being appointed by Plymouth Marjon University as Dean of the Marjon Teacher Education Partnership in September 2021. Gary’s research is in curriculum reform in physical education and sport pedagogy and in teacher education. He has supervised over 20 doctoral students to completion, published widely in his field and presented at national and international conferences.
