Philip Mantell

In a career in education lasting nearly 45 years, Philip was a Headteacher for over 23 years – at Collaton St. Mary C of E, then St. Marychurch C of E Primary Schools in Torbay. Previously he was Deputy Head in Brixham and started his career in Wiltshire and Bournemouth. Following headship, he was Diocesan Director of Education in Exeter Diocese for five years. In this role he was fully engaged in developing ethos and distinctiveness of his schools as well as school improvement and the academy model. He worked with the Regional Officers and DfE officials on a very regular basis. At one time he was a Foundation governor at Galmpton C of E Primary School and Vice Chair of the local governing body. Following his first degree of B Ed. (Bristol), after initial training at St. Paul’s College, Cheltenham, he earned an M Ed. in educational leadership from Exeter University,
Philip is also very involved in his local church at St. Mary’s, Churston Ferrers, Brixham and at Torbay Deanery Synod level. He supports Southampton FC for his sins and Hampshire Cricket Club and has a growing number of grandchildren to keep him busy!
