Inaugural Choir Concert

Monday 2 Jul 2018 Children from the four Primary Schools within our Multi Academy Trust have come together to perform specially composed songs at a concert in St Peter’s Church, Shaldon.

For the last 6 months children from Shaldon Primary School, Redhills Primary School, Collaton St Mary C of E Primary School and Galmpton C of E Primary School have been working on a concert entitled ‘Working Together’.

The CEO of the Academy, Cheryl Weyman is hoping That this will be the first of many cross Trust events: “This has been such a valuable and character building project for the children and it is wonderful for all schools to work in collaboration and then bring the four communities together for a concert.” St Peter’s Church, Shaldon were delighted to host the event and the retiring collection of £188 was donated to the Church for their new lighting fund.

The event was also attended by the Lord Mayor of Exeter; The Mayor of Teignmouth and the Chairman of Torbay Council, Councillor Ian Dogget who commented ‘It’s just wonderful listening to the children singing together, they’ve worked so hard and they are a credit to the Trust’.  The Mayor of Teignmouth, Councillor June Green, was impressed by how the children had performed their songs written by Kip Pratt and Elfyn Jones.

Kip and Elfyn based the songs on the local areas with Galmpton singing about the steam railway, Collaton St Mary singing about working in the fields, Redhills children sang about the Exeter wool mills and the Shaldon pupils sang about working on the sea.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Rob Hannaford, who thought the performance truly memorable and unique, has asked the children from Redhills to join him on a procession through Exeter singing their school song which tells the story of wool milling.
